Parent Coaching
What is parent coaching?
Parent coaching (also known as behavioral parent training, parent management training, or parent training in behavior management) is designed to provide caregivers with effective, evidence-based strategies to manage behaviors, build positive routines, and enhance communication. Whether you’re navigating concerns related to autism, ADHD, executive functioning difficulties, anxiety, or general behavioral challenges at home, our approach is tailored to your family’s specific needs.
Through individualized coaching sessions with our psychologist, we help parents:
✅ Understand the reasons behind their child’s behaviors
✅ Learn proactive strategies to replace challenging behaviors
✅ Develop structured routines and reinforcement techniques
✅ Improve communication and social interactions at home and in the community
✅ Foster independence and emotional regulation
✅ Gain confidence in managing everyday parenting challenges
Fact: The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends behavioral parent training as the first-line intervention for children ages 4–6 with ADHD and as a core component of treatment for children ages 6–12.
What is our approach?
Our parent coaching services are provided by a psychologist and are grounded in evidence-based behavioral principles. This approach focuses on understanding patterns of behavior, identifying factors that may influence them, and using practical strategies such as positive reinforcement, clear expectations, and consistent responses to support meaningful change.
What makes us different?
One of our core values is providing comprehensive, individualized care. We recognize that every child and family is different, so we don’t rely on one-size-fits-all advice. Instead, we take the time to get to know your child, gather information about your unique circumstances, and develop strategies that are realistic, effective, and family-centered.
Parent Coaching Process
-
Initial Consultation
During a free 15-minute phone call, we learn about your concerns, explain our approach, and determine if coaching services are the right fit for your family. It’s also a chance to ask questions. If you decide to proceed, we send consent forms to complete electronically.
-
Intake
During the intake appointment, we take a deep dive into your child’s history and behavior concerns to gain an understanding. This can help us ensure we are providing the most appropriate interventions. We may also discuss some principles of behavior therapy (e.g., punishment vs. reinforcement).
-
Regular Sessions
During a regular 50-minute parent session, the psychologist will review current concerns, discuss recent progress or challenges, and help parents identify factors that may be influencing their child’s behavior. Sessions may include learning and practicing practical strategies, such as setting clear expectations, using positive reinforcement, responding consistently, and managing difficult behaviors.
