Psychotherapy Services
Our Therapeutic Approach
At Beacon Light Psychological Services, we provide compassionate, research-based psychotherapy to help young people build healthier thinking patterns, improve emotional well-being, and navigate life’s challenges with confidence. We specialize in therapy for children, adolescents, and young adults ages 4 to 24.
Our approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), which is a proven method for treating anxiety, mood concerns, behavioral challenges, and stress. We tailor every treatment plan to the individual, integrating other therapeutic modalities as appropriate.
Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
CBT helps young people understand how their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are connected. Through structured, goal-oriented sessions, we work together to:
Identify unhelpful thinking patterns
Learn coping and problem-solving skills
Build emotional regulation strategies
Strengthen resilience and self-confidence
CBT is practical, skills-based, and effective for a wide range of concerns.
Additional Treatment Methods
While CBT is our primary approach, some individuals benefit from additional methods, including:
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)-informed skills
Parent coaching and behavioral support
Motivational interviewing
Strength-based and solution-focused techniques
Psychoeducation for parents, caregivers, and families
Therapy is always individualized. No two treatment plans are the same.

What to Expect
-
Initial Consultation
The first step is scheduling a 15-minute phone consultation to discuss if therapy would be helpful and learn more about you. If we decide to proceed, we try to schedule the intake and send you consent forms to complete and sign electronically.
-
Intake Interview
We meet virtually for approximately 50-90 minutes to gather more information, which can help us understand current concerns and how we could guide treatment. This is also a good opportunity for you to ask questions about us and what you hope to gain from psychotherapy.
-
Individual Sessions
After the intake session, we meet for 50-minute appointments. Therapy sessions are structured but supportive, and interventions are always tailored. We usually start out weekly for therapy, but can shift to biweekly if appropriate. For children, there are opportunities to involve parents when helpful to support progress at home.
Book a free 15-minute phone consultation to speak with our therapist. We look forward to hearing from you!
