Assessment Psychologist / Pediatric Neuropsychologist — Part-Time — Portland, ME

Open to licensed psychologists (PhD or PsyD) in Maine, including those trained in pediatric neuropsychology, clinical, school, or counseling psychology.

Beacon Light Psychological Services (BLPS) is a private-pay practice in downtown Portland offering evaluations, therapy, and parent coaching to children, adolescents, and families. We're hiring a part-time assessment psychologist, as a W-2 employee, who is committed to thorough, evidence-based evaluation of children and adolescents and wants to grow with a small, collaborative team.

Why BLPS

As a private-pay practice, we have no prior authorizations, test-hour caps, or insurance-driven limits on evaluation scope, so each battery is guided by the referral question and clinical judgment. Evaluation referrals come from families and from a strong network of outside referral sources in the community. Our practice administrator handles scheduling, intake forms, and sending rating scales, so you can focus on clinical work. Our report template is designed to be genuinely useful for parents and providers, including a one-page summary of key findings and recommendations. Evaluators have access to an extensive test library, with ongoing consultation and case review with a pediatric neuropsychologist. As the practice grows, clinicians have opportunities to contribute to program development, supervision, and leadership.

Founded in 2022, BLPS is committed to high-quality care, responsiveness, and evaluations that translate insight into meaningful action for the families we serve. We value evaluations that are practical: comprehensive in scope, focused on real-world questions, and built around clear, actionable recommendations for families and schools.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Ph.D. or Psy.D. in clinical, school, or counseling psychology from an APA-accredited program
  • An APA-accredited predoctoral internship
  • A postdoctoral fellowship in pediatric neuropsychology or assessment with a pediatric focus
  • Licensed as a psychologist in the state of Maine
  • Extensive experience assessing neurodevelopmental disorders such as ADHD, ASD, and learning disorders

Position Structure

This is a part-time role that begins at approximately four comprehensive evaluations per month. The role has the potential to become a full-time position. New evaluators receive ongoing case review and consultation, particularly during the first several months, to support consistency with BLPS's evaluation model and report standards.

Evaluators may also have opportunities to supervise practicum students. Maintaining a small psychotherapy caseload is optional.

  • Collaborate with teachers and outside providers as clinically indicated
  • Participate in case review, team meetings, and community outreach and marketing efforts
